Children’s Dentistry
Compassionate Dental Care in Aberdeen
At Bay Area Dental, we love helping our youngest patients build a positive, joyful, and lifelong relationship with their smiles! We know that a child's early experiences at the dentist shape how they view dental care for the rest of their lives. That is why our experienced team has tailored our Aberdeen practice to be a warm, safe, and entirely non-intimidating environment.
From the moment you walk through our doors, our goal is to make dental visits feel like a fun adventure rather than a chore. Dr. Kujala and our team possess the gentle touch, patience, and specialized qualifications needed to care for your child’s unique oral development through every milestone of childhood: from infancy all the way through their teenage years.

Your Child’s First Dental Visit
What to Expect
According to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, children should have their first dental visit within six months of their first tooth popping through, or by their very first birthday. While this might seem early, these initial visits are vital for a lifetime of excellent oral health. Early oral examinations allow Dr. Kujala to detect the earliest stages of tooth decay, monitor jaw development, and answer any questions you have about teething, thumbsucking, or nighttime bottles.
If you are nervous about how your little one will react, please rest assured that we completely understand! We design the first visit to be entirely low-stress and go completely at your child's pace. Often called a "Happy Visit," this appointment is primarily about building comfort. We will gently count their teeth, check their gums, and let them take a fun ride in the dental chair. If your child is feeling shy, we can even perform the quick exam while they happily cuddle right in your lap. We want to ensure that your child leaves our office with a prize, a smile, and the realization that visiting the dentist is a wonderful experience.

Exams & Pediatric Preventative Care
To ensure your child's smile stays healthy and happy, we recommend scheduling a routine dental check-up every six months. During these gentle visits, our team will:

Cavity Prevention with Sealants
We apply a thin, protective sealant to the deep grooves of your child's back molars. This quickly seals out trapped food and bacteria, drastically reducing their risk of cavities.

Provide Professional Cleanings
Gently remove any stubborn buildup of plaque or tartar that regular brushing leaves behind.

Educate & Empower
Healthy smiles don't stop at our office! We love teaching both you and your child how to make tooth-friendly food choices and master the best ways to brush and floss at home.

Topical Fluoride Treatments
We can apply a gentle fluoride treatment directly to your child's teeth to strengthen the protective enamel, making their smiles significantly more resistant to decay.

Screen for Care
Thoroughly check your child’s mouth for any early signs of tooth decay or gum irritation.

Space Maintainers
Protecting Future Growth
If your child loses a baby tooth early due to an injury or extraction from decay, a space maintainer becomes an essential tool. Without a tooth in place, the surrounding teeth will naturally shift into the open gap. A custom space maintainer is a small, comfortable appliance designed to hold those remaining teeth in their proper positions. This keeps the highway clear so your child's future permanent tooth can erupt exactly where it is supposed to, preventing severe crowding and alignment issues down the road.
